C/S Project Showcase: J. Paul Getty Art Center
The J. Paul Getty Art Center by Architect Richard Meier is designed to maximize the use of natural daylight. Since direct exposure of UV rays could damage artwork, Mr. Meier specified a custom C/S skylight shutter system that control solar penetration. C/S Skylight Shutters are mounted on structural walls above each of the Getty's gallery skylights. The 17" wide blades are computer controlled and move through a 135 degree arc. Movement of the blades regulates the amount of light entry depending on time of day and season. The C/S skylights allow the paintings to be lit entirely by daylight without any direct sunlight.
