C/S Project Showcase: Solyndra
In 2009 Solyndra, a manufacturer of solar photovoltaic panels received a grant from the US Department of Energy to build its new manufacturing facility. To create a sustainable facility, STUDIOS Architecture employed strategies to control heat gain, glare and energy usage. STUDIOS specified C/S Solarmotion Operating and Fixed Sunshades. For the Western elevation, STUDIOS selected 16" curved perforated blades that are 8% open to provide light and restrict glare. For a flush appearance when closed, each blade was pivoted off-center. On the southern elevation of the facility, 2'6" deep fixed exterior light shelves are used. Architect: STUDIOS Architecture
